It’s summer here in Northern Ireland, in April all the talk was of a long hot summer, lots of BBQs where planned, sunblock was purchased and road trips in the offing. May and June showed a lot of promise, yep, it was going to a great long hot summer. I managed to get out and shot a lot of stock around my commissioned work.
Then… July hits or should I say rainy season! Can anyone tell me, does Mother Nature use a calendar? On 1st July the clouds start gathering and rumbling down the mountains like black menacing stallions marking the start of rainy season.
Now Ireland is known as the Emerald Isle with good reason, we do get our fair share of rain. But come July you would expect dry weather, not here. Over the last 4 or 5 years July has become incredibly wet, making it difficult to plan anything. It’s now 22nd July and BBQ hasn’t even been mentioned and the sunblock barely touched. Come on July still time to redeem yourself! And yes I would be the first to complain if the temp was 35c, still I wouldn’t mind the opportunity.
Thankfully most shoots have been indoors so the weather hasn’t affected them. Has it stopped me shooting stock? In a word no, I have been using the ‘rainy season’ to my advantage and adding new pictures to my catalog.
Maybe we will have the obligatory late Indian summer that we are promised every year but never materialises, just this once!

Dave, i’ll never understand why you bother having seasons over here, it should just be categorized by cold & colder, grey & greyer. Oh well saying that, the people of NI are some of the best i’ve met anywhere in the world & you should treasure that fact.
By the way i’ve always loved your photos, GREAT WORK!!
